Before becoming widely embraced by popular culture, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star was first created as a performance basketball shoe in the early 20th century. It was given its name in honor of Chuck Taylor, a basketball player and shoe salesman who, in the 1920s, made important design suggestions to the original model that helped it gain popularity.
